How the K League 1 works

The format

12 clubs play each other three times over 33 games from February, then the table splits into a Final A (top 6) and Final B (bottom 6) for five more games — a calendar-year season running to December.

Asian places

The top 3 finishers qualify for the AFC Champions League, Asia's premier club competition. A military-owned club (Gimcheon Sangmu) cannot take an AFC berth, so it can pass down the table.

Relegation

The bottom club drops straight to the K League 2; 11th goes into a relegation play-off. Every point in the split matters.
