The top seven in each conference reach the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs — Round One is a best-of-three series.

Seeds 8–9 — Wild Card

8th hosts 9th in a single-elimination Wild Card game; the winner takes the last Round One place.

Seeds 10–15 — Out

Below the line — no playoffs, the season ends with Decision Day.
